About the Photographer
Don Kohlbauer has worked as a US Navy photographer and photojournalist since 1974. His work has appeared in magazines and newspapers in the US and Europe, including LIFE magazine. He has produced travel stories from Asia, Europe and Africa.
During his 26 years at the San Diego Union-Tribune, Don covered four major earthquakes, three national political conventions, three NFL Championship Super Bowls, and over 70 PGA golf tournaments.
His year long photo essay of the San Diego based USS Cowpens, featured the guided missile cruiser's deployment in the Persian Gulf, after the war in Iraq.
